Best of Texas 2008

One of my favorite parts of my job is the diversity of companies, events and people that I come in contact with at Competitor Texas Magazine. One day I am focused on mountain biking and trail running, and then the next it's kite boarding and surfing. So you can imagine all of the great retailers, events, coaches and clubs I can come in contact with throughout the year. For me, deciding which are the best bike shops, running clubs and coaches in Texas is almost impossible and I am glad that I don't have to make those decisions for the Best of Texas contest. That's why we're leaving those decisions up to you... the reader!

What is the Best of Texas? It's a reader survey, (yes YOU!) that we do each year to determine the best retailers, clubs and events in the great state of Texas, chosen by our Competitor Texas readers. Yes, there are various "best of" polls, surveys and contests that other magazines and newspapers run in Austin, Dallas and Houston but two things truly set our Best of Texas apart: it's a reader survey and not driven by who advertises the most, and it covers the entire state of Texas and not just one city.

Between October 1 and December 1 we will accept votes for the Best of Texas 2008 on our Web site at www.competitortx.com and during that time we will be selecting several lucky voters each month to send prizes to from our great sponsors.

GRAND PRIZE - BEST OF TEXAS GRIFFEN VULCAN

We will be selecting ONE voter at random for our grand prize, a Griffen Vulcan Triathlon Bike equipped with Dura Ace components. Since Griffen is based in Decatur, Texas we thought it would be a great grand prize for the Best of Texas contest.

How do you win? All you need to do is log on to www.competitortx.com, click on the "Best of Texas" link and cast your vote. Winners will be notified via e-mail so we can confirm your mailing address before prizes are mailed. So don't forget that all-important e-mail address when voting.

As far as voting goes:
Athletic Orthopedics and knee center here in Houston
with Dr. Jensen is great! Asics gel nimbus 9's are great shoes. Fleet Feet on
Woodway in Houston has a great selection of shoes and staff! Cycle Spectrum on
Mason Rd. in Katy has great staff and awesome prices on bikes and
gear!!
Robek's all-natural Smoothies in Houston are great for pre- and
post-training. The Cinco Ranch triathlon I believe to be well organized and a
fun, fast course!I think that about covers it

For best trainer, Jason Roy of Complete Fitness Training takes the cake. As a
triathelete, he knows the importance of working all the muscle groups using a
variety of exercises and equipment. He makes exercising fun because each
session differs and is tailored to the client's needs at that time--he never
takes the "one routine fits all" approach. Jason takes great care to
avoid injuries with his clients and also helps with nutrition counseling. Jason
helped me reach my workout goals and helped me stay focused even on my worst
days.

Jason Roy was excellent with my 16 year old son - he needed a jump start before
beginning his baseball training and Jason not only worked him out physically,
but mentally got him on the right track. Our goal in working with Jason was for
my son to gain weight and to do strength training. My son has gained 10 pounds
and is in better shape than he has ever been in his life. The workout regiment
and "diet" that Jason put him on has paid off and I am very grateful.

Loved the article on American Gladiators and watching it is even better.
Needing to keep active physically and spiritually.

My vote is for RunTex in Austin due to their sponsership of so many quality
races.

Okay so I finally see the link to the survey after looking around several times.
Y'all should put it further up on the page if you want people to find it. I
kept clicking on the link towards the top of the page near the magazine cover
and it kept taking me here.

Richardson Bike Mart's (Richardson TX) helpful associates got me on a great bike
and continue to provide great services. They are the best bike shop to me.
